We hope this site will prove to be informative as you become acquainted with us and with the ministries of Forge Road Bible Chapel. We have a rich legacy of the faithful teaching of God's Word and reaching out to those around us with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We welcome you to join us on Sunday morning!

Statement of Faith

  1. The Bible, both the Old and New Testament, is given by inspiration of God, and is inerrant in its original writings. (II Timothy 3:16-17)
  2. There is One God, eternally existing in Three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4, Mark 12:29; Matthew 28:19)
  3. Jesus Christ is God the Son, begotten by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and born both Man and God. (Luke 1:26-38; John 10:30; Colossians 2:9)
  4. God created the heavens and the earth, and God created people in His own image. (Genesis 1:1-27)
  5. All people (apart from Jesus Christ) have sinned, and fallen short of God's standard, and that the punishment for sin is death. (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23)
  6. Jesus Christ died for our sins when He was crucified on Calvary. (I Corinthians 15:3)
  7. Jesus Christ is raised from the dead; He is ascended into Heaven; and He is now seated at the right hand of God, and is Lord of all. (I Corinthians 15:4; Ephesians 1:20; Hebrews 1:3)
  8. We are saved by faith in Christ Jesus, unto eternal life, apart from works or religious observances. (John 3:16, Romans 3:21-28; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9)
  9. The Church is composed of all who are saved by faith in Christ, and is made one through the working of the Holy Spirit. (I Corinthians 12:4-31)
  10. We await the personal and soon coming of the Lord Jesus, and the resurrection of the dead, of the just unto life and the unjust unto condemnation. (Acts 1:10-11; John 5:24-29; John 14:1-6; I Thessalonians 4:13-18)

  • What Denomination is this Church?
A Church is not a building, but a body of people united in faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior, and dedicated to His service as Lord. We are Bible-based in our faith and practice. We are also dedicated to each other in love, to support and care for one another, and to build one another up spiritually. Forge Road Bible Chapel follows the directions and pattern given the New Testament for the meeting and work of the Church. As the Bible does not provide for "denominations" within the Church, we are Christians gathered only to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are independent of any secular or religious order, but fellowship with all those who love the Lord Jesus. (I Corinthians 1; Acts 11)

  • Who is the Pastor of the Church?
The Head of the Church is Jesus Christ. By the Holy Spirit, the shepherding of the Church is entrusted to godly men, who the Bible calls "elders." Elders serve as a group, without any one person having prominence. The practical necessities of the ministry are handled by those recognized by the Church as "deacons." However, every Christian has spiritual gift for work in the ministry of the Church. Therefore, no ministry is committed unto just one person; but depends upon the combined service of all. (Acts 6 and 20; I Timothy 3; Titus 1; Ephesians 4)

  • What is the Lord's Supper?
On the night before He died, Jesus asked His disciples to remember Him in the breaking of bread and the drinking of the cup. This instruction is repeated to the early Church, and was practiced by it on the first day of the week. This meeting focuses on the Lord's death, which is His great sacrifice for us. In it, we worship the Lord Jesus, declare His worthiness, and express our thanksgiving for what He has done. (Matthew 26; I Corinthians 11)

  • What does it mean to be an active participant in the fellowship of believers at Forge Road Bible Chapel?
A person who (1) has been born again, i.e., has received the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; (2) strives to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord, obedient to the standards of His Word; (3) appreciates the significance of and participates in the fellowship of the Lord's Supper at FRBC; (4) is in agreement with the doctrinal statement of FRBC; (5) participates in the use of his/her spiritual gift in the ministries of FRBC; (6) encourages and supports the ministries of other believers at FRBC; (7) supports the leadership of the Deacons and Elders at FRBC; (8) supports the fellowship and meetings of FRBC; (9) joins in corporate prayer support for the ministry and Christians at FRBC; (10) helps with the financial support of FRBC.

  • How do I Become a Member of the Church?
The Church consists of all persons who are born again through faith in Jesus Christ. The Church is not "joined" by a ceremony or process; but the Lord adds to His Church those who are saved. Therefore, rather than keep a membership list, we emphasize that a person is in fellowship at a local church. To be in fellowship means to be committed to that body of believers, in agreement with its doctrine, in support of its goals, and committed to one another in love. Christians in a local church should continue together in doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. We welcome all those who are saved by faith in Jesus Christ to join with us in this fellowship. (Matthew 16; Luke 10; Acts 2)

History of FRBC

Forge Road Bible Chapel is the continuation of a Christian Church that was established in 1943. Its original incorporators were Alfred S. Loizeaux, Stanley Loizeaux, Sidney H. Tinley, Jr., and Matthew Wilson. Alfred Loizeaux donated two lots on Goodview Road in the Hillendale neighborhood of Baltimore County, totaling 50 feet by 175 feet, on which stood a small building used for children’s meetings. The first name of the new organization was “The Hillendale Sunday School.” In 1952, a small chapel building was erected on the site.

This building served as the home of the Church until 1995. It was twice expanded, and two contiguous lots were added to it in 1960. The ministry expanded from a Sunday School to include teaching services for adults, and then full Church ministries.

The Church continued over the years, small in numbers but not in faith. It established many ministry traditions which have continued over the years, including a Vacation Bible School and an annual Family Retreat (first held on April 16 and 17, 1976).

By the early 1990s, Hillendale Bible Chapel (as it was then called) was steadily growing, and had overgrown the small facility on Goodview Road. In 1995, the Sunday Morning Services were moved to Pine Grove Middle School, with mid-week services continuing at the Goodview Road property. During this time, the Church aggressively sought for land on which to build a facility which could accommodate those attending, and which could serve the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Perry Hall area. Land on Forge Road was identified and purchased in 1999. Construction of the present building was begun in 2001 and finished in 2002. Services there began in July, 2002, and the building was dedicated on September 28, 2002.

We are thankful for the blessings of the Lord God over the years of ministry; and also for the work of so many faithful men and women. We look with confidence to the ministry before us, serving together, as we wait for the Return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
